ABOUT PRODUCTID 36807
This artistic glass vase, designed by Hana Machovska for the Mstišov glassworks in Nový Bor, Czechoslovakia, dates from the 1950s–60s and exemplifies Czech mid-century modern glassmaking. The tall, slender, and slightly asymmetrical cylindrical form features a rounded top and subtly irregular base, crafted from thick, hand-shaped glass. Its high-gloss, polished surface highlights the dynamic interplay of vibrant yellow, blue, red, and green, which blend seamlessly into the transparent body to create a painterly composition. The base is polished flat, indicating handcrafted finishing, a hallmark of the Nový Bor region. There are no visible signs of damage or restoration—the vase is preserved in very good vintage condition, with subtle traces of artisanal process. This vase tells the story of postwar Central Europe, where glass became a medium of modernity and artistic experimentation. Its colors flow across the surface like an impressionist landscape, while light passing through the transparent sections is scattered into subtle reflections. Each irregularity, each organic contour echoes the touch of the artist, evoking the 1960s search for dialogue between Czech craft tradition and the spirit of abstraction. The vase seems to whisper of the era’s bold forms and liberated color, embodying the essence of mid-century modern design. This piece could be paired with other design icons from the era—such as geometric 1960s furniture or ceramics with bold textures. It would work well in a bright living room, placed on a low wooden sideboard or a metal console, where it can diffuse light and add an artistic accent. It may be combined with a graphite mirror or minimalist lighting to emphasize its chromatic energy. Whether in mid-century modern interiors, eclectic collections, or bohemian spaces, this vase brings the aura of 1960s Czech avant-garde into any setting.
