ABOUT PRODUCTID 42110
This vase, designed by Wiesława Gołajewska in 1963 for the Pruszków Stoneware Factory, is a striking example of Polish mid-century modernism. Crafted from porcelite, it features an organic, flattened spherical body with a wide base and a relatively small, asymmetrical opening incorporating an integrated handle-like cutout. The cool, light greyish-white glaze is enhanced by Gołajewska’s signature 'running glaze' technique, producing irregular, crater-like patterns in a slightly deeper shade of grey. The glossy surface accentuates the play of light across the tactile relief, while the base is slightly recessed and left unglazed in keeping with the period’s conventions. The 'PRUSZKÓW/MADE IN POLAND' mark affirms its provenance. There are no signs of damage, restoration, or significant wear—this piece remains in very good vintage condition.Within this vessel resonates the spirit of Poland’s postwar avant-garde: Wiesława Gołajewska, a pivotal designer of her era, brought a new sensuality and organic rhythm to everyday objects. The unique running glaze—her own invention—lends the surface a volcanic, almost primordial energy, as if nature itself had intervened in its creation. The vase seems to whisper stories of a time when experimentation with form and texture embodied optimism and the search for beauty in everyday life. The vase can serve as an autonomous accent on a pale wooden sideboard, its biomorphic silhouette and subtle palette harmonizing with contemporary interiors. It could be combined with other mid-century vessels or minimalist ceramics to highlight its sculptural presence. Suitable for both mid-century modern and eclectic collector’s spaces, this piece rewards careful placement—whether displayed with a single branch or left empty, its structure and glaze alone make it a compelling focal point.
