ABOUT PRODUCTID 3188
This vase, created by the Steatyt porcelain factory in Katowice and designed by Zygmunt Buksowicz around 1960, is a distinctive example of Polish mid-century modern design with pop art influences. The dynamic, sculptural form features two asymmetrical, slender arms rising upward and joined at the base, forming an openwork, organic silhouette. The primary color is a cool olive green with a subtle gradient that transitions to an almost white tone at the top edges. The surface is finished with a glossy glaze, accented by a visible crackle effect that adds visual depth. Bold, vertical gold stripes run along the contours of each arm, emphasizing the modern elegance of the piece. The base is irregular and slightly textured, harmonizing with the overall organic lines. The interior is white and glazed. The vase measures 21 cm in height, 13 cm in length, and 7.5 cm in width. It is preserved in excellent condition, with no visible chips, losses, or restoration marks. The vase captures the spirit of Polish ceramics in the 1960s, when modernity met the courage to experiment. Its organic lines and gold accents reflect the era’s confidence—drawing on natural inspiration while embracing bold color and geometric contrast. The piece echoes the modernist ambition to create everyday objects that act as small sculptures, transcending their utilitarian function. It can be paired with a simple light wood console or a classic living room side table, highlighting the organic rhythm of the space. The vase works well as a standalone sculptural accent or alongside other period pieces, such as colored glass or ceramics with geometric forms. It is worth combining with neutral textiles and subtle lighting to bring out the glaze and gilded details—making it suitable for mid-century modern, collector’s, or eclectic interiors.
