ABOUT PRODUCTID 216
The 'Optical' vase, model 914, was designed by Rudolf Schrötter for Sklo Union Rosice in Czechoslovakia during the 1950s. Crafted from pressed glass in a cool turquoise hue with subtle blue and violet undertones, its surface is adorned with a distinctive optical relief achieved through a lens molding technique—elongated, vertical, oval protrusions create a dynamic, geometric rhythm. The form is slender and cylindrical, with softly rounded shoulders and a proportionally tapered neck; a thick base ensures stability. The glass is clear and highly glossy, contrasting the smooth main surface with the tactile texture of the relief. The vase is preserved in very good condition—no chips, cracks, or signs of restoration, maintaining its original mid-century state. This vase reflects an era when utilitarian glass became a central protagonist in interior spaces, transcending its function to embody the spirit of modern design. Its lens relief scatters light in a shimmering pattern, evoking the modernist fascination with geometry and visual clarity. The transparency and cool chromatic palette tell the story of Czech craftsmanship in the 1950s, a period that set new standards in European design, blending precision with a bold approach to color and light. The vase is well suited for display on a low sideboard in light wood or a minimalist accent table. It can be paired with other glass or ceramic objects in muted tones to enhance its transparency and the rhythm of its relief. It works well within mid-century modern, Scandinavian, or twentieth-century collector’s interiors—worth pairing with simple lampshades, geometric prints, or raw, textured textiles to underscore the play of light and the depth of turquoise.
