ABOUT PRODUCTID 225
The 'Optical' vase model 914 was designed by Rudolf Schrötter and produced by the Rosice Glassworks (Sklo Union) in Czechoslovakia during the 1950s. Made from pressed glass, it features a vibrant, transparent turquoise hue with a cool undertone and a highly polished, glossy surface. The body is adorned with a geometric, symmetrical relief of repeated oval lens motifs, lending the vase a distinctive tactile structure. Its form tapers gently upwards, while the thick, stable base is subtly hexagonal, reinforcing its modernist aesthetic. The relief is perceptible to the touch and sharply defined, with balanced proportions between height, width, and the scale of the motifs. This vase is preserved in very good vintage condition, free from visible signs of wear, damage, or restoration. This vase embodies the spirit of postwar modernism, a period when designers sought modernity through simple, repeatable patterns and precise craftsmanship. The geometric lenses catch and reflect light, creating dynamic plays of reflection that seem to capture the optimism and order of the era. The vase tells the story of a time when glass was not merely utilitarian but a statement of aesthetic discipline and a symbol of democratized, well-designed everyday objects. The 'Optical' vase may serve as a solo accent on a minimalist shelf or sideboard, where its clarity and rhythm enhance the interior. When combined with other vessels from the era—especially glassware in contrasting colors or strong textures—it creates an engaging dialogue of forms. It works well in mid-century modern arrangements, but can also be paired with soft textiles and simple ceramics to highlight both its geometric character and the lightness of its glass material.
