ABOUT PRODUCTID 36854
The 'Pień' vase, designed by Danuta Duszniak in 1960 for the Chodzież Porcelain and Porcelain Factory (part of the Ćmielów brand), is a notable example of mid-century modern Polish porcelain. Its sculptural, bifurcated silhouette with a flared base and dynamic Y-shaped profile reflects the innovative spirit of 1960s Polish design. The vase is finished in a warm, slightly creamy white with a glossy surface, adorned with hand-painted organic black lines and subtle grey accents. These vertical, undulating patterns echo the natural grain of tree bark, reinforcing the 'trunk' motif. The vase is signed on the underside with the manufacturer’s mark, confirming its authenticity and heritage. It is preserved in very good condition, with no visible damage, chips, or signs of wear; the hand-painted decoration remains crisp and intact. This vessel embodies the optimism and creative experimentation characteristic of the Polish design movement in the 1960s. Its organic lines and dynamic form evoke a dialogue with nature, while the minimalist yet expressive decoration speaks to a desire for freshness and modern harmony. The porcelain carries the voice of its era—clear, innovative, and thoughtfully restrained—showcasing the drive for originality and aesthetic advancement in postwar Poland. The 'Pień' vase could be paired with mid-century modern furnishings, where its sculptural presence and pure lines would be elegantly highlighted. It would work well on a minimalist light-wood console or against a matte, muted wall, emphasizing subtle contrasts and organic rhythm. The piece could be complemented by a single branch or a composition of dried grasses, as well as paired with simplified ceramics or Murano glass, creating a considered, curated arrangement that echoes both selectivity and harmony.
