ABOUT PRODUCTID 19408
Designed by Jerzy Słuczan-Orkusz in the 1970s for the Krakow Glass Institute, this vase is a classic example of Polish modernism, its organic, rounded silhouette distinguished by a subtly narrowed flat rim. The glass is rendered in a smoky, cool violet tone with a semi-translucent, satin-matte surface that gently reflects light. Its most distinctive feature is the hand-applied, thick glass trail spiralling around the body in a brownish-purple hue, introducing a dynamic three-dimensional accent and highlighting the artisanal quality of the piece. The base is notably thickened for both stability and durability. There are no visible chips, cracks or signs of intervention – the vase remains in very good condition, with its original form and detail fully preserved. This vase is a quietly expressive narrative of 1970s Polish design, embodying both the experimental spirit and disciplined craftsmanship of its era. The organic body adorned with its painterly glass spiral recalls a period where simplicity was enlivened by audacious, hand-crafted gestures. The violet shade diffuses subtle light and shadow effects, while the rhythmic glass detailing evokes a pulse – a silent testament to a time that championed the synthesis of art and utility. The object brings a sense of calm, gently echoing the rhythm of its interior surroundings. The vase can be combined with minimalist or geometric pieces from the 1960s and 70s, or placed alongside a broader collection of coloured or satin-finish glassware. It would work well on a light wooden sideboard or a neutral stone worktop, where its colour and texture can be fully appreciated by natural light. Whether left empty to showcase its interplay with light, or completed with a single bold branch, it adapts to mid-century modern as well as contemporary, eclectic interiors, highlighting its unique character.
