ABOUT PRODUCTID 20448
This sculptural vase, produced by the Steatyt porcelain factory in Katowice around 1960, exemplifies Polish design influenced by the Pop Art and mid-century modern movements. The body is crafted from glazed white porcelain, featuring a semi-matte, distinctly textured surface reminiscent of hammered metal. Its construction is monolithic, with smooth, flowing curves and a hollowed central section, evoking organic, biomorphic forms. Hand-painted, raised decorative motifs in pastel green and warm orange are distributed asymmetrically across the body, while slender gold lines highlight the contours and inner edges, introducing a subtle interplay of light and contrast. The vase measures 22 cm in height, 11 cm in length, and 8 cm in width. There are no visible signs of damage or wear – the condition is very good. The form of this vase echoes the voice of the 1960s, when Polish ceramics sought bold, expressive means of artistic expression. The geometric yet organic silhouette captures the spirit of an era where everyday objects became fields for creative experimentation. The gold accents gently guide the eye along the sculptural lines, while the raised decorations suggest that joy and daring in design were not reserved only for the capitals of the design world. The vase, subtly shimmering in the light, narrates the story of Polish modernism, where artisanal tradition met a vision of modernity. This vase can be paired with simple, modernist furniture in light wood or lacquered metal to underscore its Pop Art origins. It works well as a solo accent on a living room console, where the white porcelain and pastel details can reflect daylight. It is worth combining with graphic art or glass in contrasting colors to create a composition with a hint of retro. In eclectic interiors, the vase will serve as a vivid accent, while in minimalist settings it will introduce a subtle rhythm and tactile structure to the space.
