ABOUT PRODUCTID 5706
This ceramic vase, designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi in the 1970s, exemplifies Italian mid-century modern artistic craftsmanship. Made of ceramic and decorated using the sgraffito technique, it features the signature Rimini Blue glaze—a deep, saturated cobalt blue interspersed with lighter turquoise accents. The central band is adorned with repeating medallions depicting stylized flowers or crosses, complemented by small geometric decorative elements. The surface is slightly uneven, with tactile, hand-incised lines and intentional small pits, lending the vase a unique, artisanal quality. Its cylindrical form with a tapered base and pronounced flared neck reflects the proportions characteristic of 1970s design. The vase bears the maker's mark, attesting to its authenticity. It is preserved in very good vintage condition, with no visible damage or repairs, retaining its original finish and patina. This object evokes the spirit of Italian modernism: the intense glaze and hand-carved ornamentation seem to tell the story of an era when color and pattern were expressions of postwar optimism. The vase “speaks” in the language of southern Europe—each glimmer of light on its glossy surface highlights the artistry of its handmade origin, while the geometric motifs create a rhythmic dance reminiscent of mosaic pavements in Italian squares. There is a sense of joyful experimentation, yet also the enduring presence of a piece designed for the appreciation of everyday beauty. It could be placed on an oak console or a low sideboard in a living room, where the vivid blue hue will accentuate the depth of natural wood. The vase works well among simple, modernist forms—against pale walls and alongside ceramics in contrasting shades such as white, terracotta, or green. One may pair it with a single
