This Murano glass vase from the 1970s, designed by Flavio Poli for Alessandro Mandruzzato, exemplifies mature mid-century modern artistry in glass. Crafted using the sommerso technique, it features a saturated cobalt blue core encased in a subtle layer of golden yellow, all within a thick, transparent exterior. The geometric, faceted block with sharply angled edges and elongated proportions showcases the mastery of Murano glassmaking. Its smooth, highly polished surface enhances the brilliance and clarity of the glass, while the 'Made in Murano Italy' label attests to its authenticity. There are no visible signs of wear, chips, cracks, or restoration. The vase remains in excellent vintage, collector’s condition.
This vase embodies the spirit of an era when Italian art glass became small-scale works of functional art. The faceted sides capture and refract light, creating dynamic reflections—like a piece of Venetian sunshine suspended in glass. The interplay of blue and yellow evokes a dialogue between water and light, while the weight and precision of the piece speak to a deep respect for material and craft. It is an object that could tell stories of formal and chromatic experimentation in the 1970s as Murano set new standards in glass art.
The vase works beautifully as a solo statement on a marble tabletop, an oak console, or a low sideboard in a contemporary or eclectic space. It can be paired with minimalist ceramics,
