The optical vase from the 'Tetris' series was designed by Jiří Brabec in 1968 for the renowned Sklo Union glassworks in Rosice, former Czechoslovakia. Crafted from thick-walled, pressed soda-lime glass in a translucent yellow with a subtle golden sheen, its cuboid form (measuring 18 × 9.5 × 9.5 cm) is adorned with a pronounced geometric relief—raised, regular blocks arranged in a rhythmic pattern reminiscent of both a puzzle and an abstract labyrinth. The interior of the vase is smooth, while the exterior is richly textured and faceted, accentuating the optical play of light as it refracts across the edges. There are no visible signs of wear, chips, or restoration; the condition remains excellent. This vase embodies the spirit of the late 1960s, when Central European modernism merged with a fascination for brutalism and optical experimentation. Its form expresses a dialogue between function and geometric expression: the substantial silhouette reflects the solidity of the era, while the interplay of light on the textured glass shifts throughout the day, creating a sense of movement. It is an object that manages to be both silent and radiant, as if intent on capturing a moment and transforming it into a luminous mosaic. The vase can be paired with raw wood or concrete to emphasize its modernist heritage. It would work well in mid-century modern or minimalist collector’s interiors, where its geometric form and yellow hue become a visual focal point. Consider combining it with clear glass or black ceramics for contrasting textures, or place it on a 1960s sideboard to define the character of the entire arrangement.
