ABOUT PRODUCTID 32041
This square, clear glass vase, designed by Helena Tynell for Riihimaki in Finland in the 1970s, is an expressive study of form and light that epitomizes Scandinavian modernism. The thick, colorless glass with a cool undertone is enlivened by an irregular hammered texture, scattering reflections and emphasizing the vase’s architectural presence. Its proportions are balanced: a broad, stable base (10 × 10 cm) flows seamlessly into a slightly flared, square mouth, with a total height of 11.5 cm. The vase is preserved in very good condition, showing only a small chip on the upper edge—an authentic trace of age, with no signs of heavy wear or restoration. This piece conveys the story of Nordic simplicity and material experimentation so characteristic of Finnish design in the 1970s. Helena Tynell, a glass artist of rare intuition, uses light as a painter uses shadow; the irregular surface seems to record the rhythm of everyday life and the breath of a past era. The cool transparency of the glass underscores the minimalist ethos, where form serves as both ornament and practical accent, and every detail is a considered gesture. The vase can be paired with raw wood, matte ceramics, or metal accents to highlight its sculptural quality and create a dialogue of textures. It works well as a standalone centerpiece on a console or sideboard in a living room, but also in the company of other geometric vessels, fitting into mid-century modern, minimalist, or eclectic vintage interiors. It is worth combining with a single branch or leaving empty, letting the play of light take center stage.
