ABOUT PRODUCTID 10044
This large vase, designed by Josef Hospodka in 1960s Czechoslovakia, exemplifies the postwar tradition of Bohemian glass artistry. Its sculptural body, hand-blown from thick glass, draws attention with a twisted silhouette and fluid, spiral lines. The transparent surface transitions gradually from an almost colorless glass with a subtle lavender tint at the rim to a deep, saturated blue at the base, where the glass is at its thickest. The absence of decorative patterns emphasizes the minimalist character, while the highly polished finish intensifies light reflections and reveals nuanced color shifts. The rim is slightly flared and smoothly finished, and the overall proportions are harmonious. Condition is very good – only minimal, superficial scratches may be visible upon close inspection, with no chips, cracks, or repairs.Within its dynamic form, the vase captures the spirit of the 1960s, when Czechoslovakian glassmakers embraced bold formal experiments and subtle color gradations. Hospodka’s vase seems to enclose both the movement of light and the stillness of water – transparency and gentle color transitions suggest calm, while the substantial base conveys stability. Each turn of the vase reveals a new pattern of reflections, inviting contemplation and discovery of layered composition. It tells the story of an era where craftsmanship and design were inextricably linked. The vase is well-suited to interiors inspired by mid-century modern aesthetics or to contemporary collector’s spaces where glass objects take center stage. It can be displayed on a light wood console to accentuate the clarity and grain, or paired with matte ceramic vessels to create a dialogue between gloss and texture. Consider grouping it with other glass pieces from the era
