ABOUT PRODUCTID 20343
This ceramic vase, designed by Wit Płażewski for the Włocławek Faience Factory after 1958, exemplifies late 1950s Polish modernism. Its asymmetrical, organically inspired form features a rounded base that subtly tapers upward, complemented by a distinctive, sculptural protrusion on one side. The surface is glazed in a deep, cool teal, contrasted by a creamy off-white background and hand-painted, undulating black lines that create a rhythmic, abstract pattern characteristic of mid-century modern aesthetics. The smooth, highly reflective glaze enhances both the color palette and the expressive painterly detail. Dimensions: height 19.5 cm, width 14 cm, depth 12 cm. The vase is in very good condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration. This vase speaks with the voice of Polish modernism—bold, yet restrained. Its form and decoration evoke a postwar era of transformation, a time of individual experimentation in design when the artist’s hand shaped every detail. Through the glaze, one senses the optimism of the late 1950s: domestic hope, modern geometry, and the sensuality of abstraction. The hand-painted lines do more than create a pattern; they tell a story of the era’s drive for artistic expression within everyday objects meant to be both functional and unique. The vase would serve well as a focal point on a living room table or a sideboard in a collector’s interior. It could be paired with raw wood, dark glass, or minimalist metal to highlight its color and sculptural silhouette. Interiors inspired by Polish modernism, mid-century style, or eclectic vintage collections provide a natural backdrop for this piece. For a cohesive arrangement, it may be combined with other 1950s ceramics or abstract graphic art, underscoring its historical provenance and distinctive character.
