ABOUT PRODUCTID 38550
This antique vessel, dating from circa 1880–1920 and originating from Europe, is a prime example of vernacular utilitarian pottery from the late 19th century. Its bulbous, rounded body is distinguished by a narrow, slightly elongated neck and a wide, outwardly flared rim. The upper section is coated in a deep, glossy dark brown glaze, creating a pronounced contrast with the matte, earthy red terracotta surface that covers most of the body. The boundary between glazed and unglazed areas is organic and irregular, accentuating the handmade, artisanal quality of the piece. Visible marks from hand-throwing, subtle asymmetries, and minor surface irregularities bear witness to its traditional craftsmanship. The unglazed clay feels rough and tactile, while the glazed section is smooth and reflective. The vessel retains an authentic, aged patina with natural signs of use, such as small scratches and scuffs, but shows no modern repairs or alterations. Its overall condition is very good for a piece over a century old. This vessel tells the story of bygone decades through its understated, utilitarian form. It echoes the rhythm of rural households, where pottery served not just as a tool, but as a silent witness to everyday rituals. The interplay between matte red clay and glossy dark glaze evokes a balance of earthy calm and subtle accent—as if time itself has left its mark in every trace of use and handmade imperfection. Each minor scratch and irregularity underscores the authenticity of a piece that has endured cycles of change, quietly retaining its distinctive presence. The vessel can be showcased in rustic or eclectic interiors, paired with wooden furniture, linen textiles, or a curated display of ceramics from different eras.
