This original Victorian-style wicker armchair was produced by the American company Heywood-Wakefield at the beginning of the 20th century, around 1900–1910. The structure is crafted entirely from hand-woven wicker, emphasizing the artisanal character and craftsmanship typical of the era. Its slender proportions, high rounded backrest crowned with an openwork crest of spiral motifs, and richly decorated armrests embody the decorative exuberance of late Victorian design. The multicolor palette—dominated by faded pink, olive green, and natural wicker brown—creates a subtle gradient across the entire surface, while the matte finish and distinct patina reinforce its historic aura. Decorative tassels and spiral details complete the composition, and the visible handwoven joints highlight the piece’s authenticity. Condition: distinctly worn, with cracks in the wicker, missing wrapping on the front leg, and absent curled finishes on the upper part of the backrest—yet the original elements are preserved. This chair carries the voice of American Art Nouveau and the turn of the century: wicker, once seen as merely utilitarian, becomes here a sculptural medium, conjuring intricate openwork motifs.
