ABOUT PRODUCTID 30373
The Selva wall clock from the 1970s is a distinctive example of German metalwork in the brutalist spirit. Its construction features a robust, handcrafted black metal frame, richly decorated with symmetrical scrollwork and fleur-de-lis motifs that hint at Gothic influences. The central dial, in a warm, matte copper tone, is adorned with radiating geometric patterns, while the surrounding ring showcases twelve stylized Roman numerals set on raised, golden-bronze medallions. The filigree clock hands in light gold add a refined touch. The entire piece is substantial and heavy, with visible artisanal detailing. The original quartz movement remains in place. The clock's diameter is 32 cm. It is preserved in very good condition; the copper and bronze components display a natural patina, and only minor signs of age are present, without damages or repairs. The clock’s form tells a story of the 1970s, when German applied arts embraced brutalist expression, balancing rawness with ornamentation. The solid frame and ornamental motifs evoke the spirit of historic architecture, while the warm tones of copper and golden medallions introduce a sense of gravity and calm. Steel, bronze, and copper—each bearing the marks of handcraft—create an impression of authenticity and individuality, as if the clock whispers tales from an era that valued bold gestures and noble materials. The natural patina accentuates the passage of time, lending the object a dignified presence.
