The Diehl Electronic wall clock, produced in Germany and dating from the 1970s, exemplifies the brutalist design movement with its unapologetically raw aesthetic. Crafted entirely from metal in a deep, matte black with a cool undertone, the clock projects a strong industrial presence. The dial features a distinctive, grainy texture, while a sculptural openwork frame surrounds the center—twelve radial elements, each culminating in a starburst medallion with geometric, faceted detailing. These medallions are linked by curved, wrought-iron-style loops, creating a dynamic, almost floral rhythm around the face. Hour markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9, as well as the slender, pointed hands, are rendered in warm, metallic gold with a satin finish, standing out against the dark structure. Visible casting marks and intentional irregularities underscore the handcrafted, brutalist spirit of the piece. With a diameter of 37 cm, the clock features a new quartz movement for accuracy and a manufacturer’s signature on the reverse, ensuring authenticity.
