The Royal Craft Port Hole wall clock by Landex, produced in Japan during the 1980s, embodies a distinctive example of Japanese postmodern design with a pronounced nautical identity. Its body is crafted from brushed and polished brass, complemented by steel accents and chromed plastic elements, with dominant golden and silver tones. Around the bezel are twelve prominent, highly polished gold-toned bolts, while a decorative hinge and robust metallic clasp reinforce its industrial, porthole-inspired motif. The silver, radially brushed dial sits behind a glass cover; bold black Arabic numerals and a minimalist late 20th-century typeface team with three central hands—two black, one strikingly red—to ensure clarity against the mirror-like metallic background. The combination of matte and gloss surfaces plays with light, enhancing the sense of visual depth. The clock shows only a very subtle scratch at the lower part of the dial, the sole visible evidence of gentle use. It remains in very good condition, absent of any significant damage or restoration. This clock channels the spirit of the 1980s, when postmodernism embraced bold references and playful appropriation.
