ABOUT PRODUCTID 15319
This wall figurine of Madonna with Child, created in 1973, exemplifies mid-century modernist sculpture, hand-carved from teak wood. The highly stylized design features both figures rendered in elongated, simplified, almost abstracted forms and proportions—typical of the mid-century aesthetic. The sculpture’s surface presents a warm, reddish-brown teak tone, highlighted by satin to semi-matte finish. Distinctive wood grain and subtle variations run through the piece, while fine chisel marks and hand-tooling particularly along the flowing folds of the Madonna’s robe emphasize its artisanal, tactile quality. The composition is unified in a single, harmonious sweep of material, visually enveloping both mother and child in gently rounded geometry. The reverse side includes a recessed cavity for wall mounting, confirming its intended use as a wall decorative object. The figurine is signed 'HP 73'; the artist remains unidentified, though the work was acquired in Germany and likely belongs to a European school of sculpture. Condition is very good—only minor scuffs and modest signs of age, typical for natural mid-century materials, are visible.
The piece channels a sense of the sacred through a modern, nearly abstract interpretation: the deep tone of the teak and the soft, continuous geometry
