This illuminated wall mirror, attributed to Egon Hillebrand and produced by Hillebrand in Germany during the 1960s, exemplifies the bold design language of the space age era. Its oval glass is set within a highly three-dimensional, sculptural frame made of translucent acrylic, whose irregular, organic texture evokes the look of melting ice or frosted glass. The frame is finished in a warm, creamy yellow hue, with a glossy surface that accentuates the interplay of light and shadow. The construction is free of visible hardware, lending the piece a seamless and modern silhouette. A signature feature is its ability to be backlit: light passes through the acrylic, emphasizing its texture and transforming the mirror’s appearance according to the time of day or ambience. The mirror is in good condition for its age, with minor internal cracks in the frame hidden beneath the mirror glass—these do not affect its visual impact when viewed from the front. This mirror tells the story of the 1960s—a decade marked by faith in progress, experimentation with new materials, and a fascination with space age aesthetics. Its organic contours and translucent frame seem to whisper of an era when design sought to fuse function with visionary form. When illuminated, the mirror takes on a sculptural presence: light diffuses through the acrylic, as if capturing a fragment of light from another dimension, conjuring images of futuristic modernist interiors. The mirror may be paired with mid-century modern wood consoles or sideboards, chromed accents, or glass elements to create a cohesive vintage narrative. It would work well as a focal point in an entryway, dressing room, or living area, where the translucent frame enhances daylight and, in the evening, casts a soft, ambient glow. Combining it with furnishings of flowing lines and natural
