ABOUT PRODUCTID 15760
Hand-carved in Italy by A. Santangela for Studio Dante Di Volteradici in 1983, this alabaster wall plate is a testament to late 20th-century Italian craftsmanship drawing on classical religious tradition. The high-relief scene depicts the Madonna and Child, evoking Italian Renaissance and classical models through its tranquil drapery, harmonious proportions, and carefully sculpted features. Warm, slightly yellowed ivory tones with subtle variations reveal the natural character of alabaster, while the matte finish enhances the stone’s gentle translucency and the sculptural modeling of deep folds and rounded forms. The circular border is softly beveled, framing the devotional scene in keeping with traditional wall plaques. Noteworthy details include the book resting on the Madonna’s lap, the delicately rendered curls of both figures, and nuanced facial expressions that speak to the artisanal skill involved. The face bears two inscriptions: the artist's signature and a dating mark "MCMLXXXIII"; the reverse side features a purposefully recessed hanging slot, affirming its wall-mounted character. There are no chips or cracks, and the plate remains in excellent original condition, with only natural patina and minimal age
