The limited edition Rosenthal wall plate “Der Rosenkavalier”, designed by Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad in the 1970s, is a collectible example of artistic porcelain from the vintage era. Produced as part of the Rosenthal Limitierte Kunstreihen series, this piece commemorates the famous opera by Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The glossy, smooth central scene contrasts with a matte grey border, adorned with stylised white and gold drapery motifs reminiscent of stage curtains. The composition is rich in detail, with expressive gilding and a saturated palette: yellows, purples, greens, blues, orange, and red. Stylised figures with exaggerated features and ornate costumes evoke the spirit of Viennese rococo. On the reverse, the plate bears the Rosenthal signature and a gold inscription describing the operatic scene. Its proportions are classic—with a wide decorative rim and a gently concave centre—ideal for display on the wall or on a stand. Condition: very good, with no damage, scratches, or signs of restoration.This porcelain plate seems to recount a fairy-tale narrative, full of operatic intrigue and theatrical atmosphere.
