ABOUT PRODUCTID 29502
This wall sconce, designed by Helena Tynell for Limburg in the 1960s, is a refined example of Space Age and mid-century modern design. The cylindrical shade is crafted from hand-blown, transparent bubble glass, adorned with a regular, three-dimensional bubble pattern that lends the lamp a sculptural, decorative rhythm. The high-gloss glass diffuses light beautifully, enhancing the sense of clarity and transparency. The base and mounting elements are made of polished chrome-plated metal, creating a mirror-like contrast with the glass and completing the clean, geometric silhouette. A U-shaped chrome detail at the bottom reinforces the fixture’s futuristic character. The proportions are balanced: height 21 cm, width 13 cm, depth 12 cm. The sconce is preserved in very good vintage condition, with only minimal patina visible on the metal and no cracks or chips in the glass. The original manufacturer’s label confirms the authenticity of the piece. This sconce speaks the language of German modernism of the 1960s, when glass and metal symbolized a new, open world. The bubble glass reflects light like a lake’s surface stirred by a summer breeze, while the chrome base evokes the postwar optimism and the era’s bold experiments in form. The lamp tells the story of a time when functionality met artistic expression, and light became a soft, diffused presence shaping the ambience of Central European interiors in the mid-twentieth century
