The monumental wall sculpture “Nest” by Alojz Petráš, created in 1979, stands as an exceptional example of late-European modernist applied art. This composition is hand-carved from two overlapping solid oak discs in a warm, golden honey tone with prominent, natural wood grain. The satin-matte surface finish transitions fluidly between smoothly polished concavities and more textured, pronounced grain areas, drawing the organic biomorphic forms characteristic of the late 1970s. The sculptural effect is amplified by the asymmetrical arrangement of the discs and a cluster of white, egg-like ovoids at the centre of the smaller disc, openly referencing the nest motif. The craftsmanship is evident throughout: no sharp edges, seamless integration between the elements, and invisible hardware or mounting.
