ABOUT PRODUCTID 35087
This eclectic Regency whatnot, crafted in England circa 1900, exemplifies the finesse of late Victorian cabinetmaking. Built from a blend of walnut, mahogany, and beech (drawers), it features a tall, slender silhouette supported by turned baluster columns and short bun feet. The top is finished with a green felt insert, providing a striking color contrast to the warm, semi-gloss brown of the polished wood with a pronounced grain. Four open shelves are vertically arranged, and two drawers with understated hardware and simple keyholes, as well as a functional lift-top surface—historically used for sheet music—add layers of practical versatility. Substantial in weight (17.5 kg), the piece exudes solidity. Preserved in good condition, it bears the marks of time: a gentle patina, minor scuffs, small veneer losses (especially on the lower shelf), and a visible crack in the bottom shelf that does not affect its structure. The entire whatnot has been refreshed while retaining its original character. The form of this whatnot evokes the ambiance of English parlors from over a century ago, where Regency elegance harmonized with everyday functionality. The baluster columns and the subtle, reddish mahogany tones tell the story of an era that valued both ornament and disciplined form. The green felt top, once a resting place for sheet music, still echoes with memories of musical evenings and social gatherings, while the wood’s patina and gentle traces of use emphasize
