The AJ Royal 500 pendant lamp was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the Danish brand Louis Poulsen, originally created for the iconic SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. This model is defined by its precisely crafted, hemispherical aluminum shade in a crisp matte white finish. The surface is smooth, with a subtle satin sheen that underscores the minimalist silhouette. Characteristic concentric, stepped rings with narrow slits are arranged at the top of the shade, allowing light to gently diffuse upwards as well as down. The lamp is suspended from a white fabric-braided cord and comes with a new metal ceiling canopy, with no visible fasteners, emphasizing its refined geometry. With a diameter of 50 cm and a height of 23 cm, the lamp is in very good vintage condition, displaying only minimal signs of use with no damage or discoloration. AJ Royal 500 captures the spirit of 1960s Danish modernism: the hemispherical form seems to float effortlessly, while the interplay of light across the white shade evokes the restrained elegance of Jacobsen’s era.
