ABOUT PRODUCTID 16919
This late 19th-century Austrian serving spoon from circa 1890–1900 unites noble materials with the refined detailing emblematic of the Art Nouveau era. The bowl is crafted from natural shell, exhibiting a fluid gradient of beige, pearly white, and subtle golden tones with a silky, luminous surface unique to polished nacre. The shell’s form is organically oval and delicately domed for optimal function. Ornamental silver-plated brass fittings connect the shell to the handle—featuring intricate, plant-inspired motifs and a meticulous transition between elements, echoing the decorative language of Vienna Secession. The handle itself is a silver-plated brass twist, finished with a small spherical finial; its softly matte patina and graceful aging marks attest to the authenticity and period charm. All connections are finely executed, with no visible signs of wear or repair. The spoon is preserved in excellent condition: there are no chips, cracks, or significant abrasions to shell or metal parts. This object speaks in the voice of turn-of-the-century Viennese Art Nouveau—a period where even functional accessories were infused with artistic intention and soulful craftsmanship. The shell’s lustrous surface recalls the sophistication of grand salons, evoking images of elegant breakfasts and gatherings where every utensil served as a subtle ornament. The twisted handle reflects the dynamic, organic lines of Jugendstil, resonating with a longing for modernity and nature's harmony even in the most modest of forms
