ABOUT PRODUCTID 38475
This amethyst crystal bonbonniere from the 1930s is a striking example of Czech Art Deco, crafted at the renowned Moser glassworks. Made of thick, transparent crystal glass in a deep, cool shade of purple with a subtle blue undertone, the piece is defined by sharply faceted, geometric planes covering both body and lid. The faceted handle echoes the architectural motif, uniting the form’s harmonious proportions: a wide, low base transitions smoothly to a gently domed lid. Free from additional ornamentation, the bonbonniere focuses attention on the purity of form and the sophisticated interplay of light across the glass. An original Moser signature on the underside confirms authenticity. Condition is ideal – there are no chips, cracks, or signs of use.The bonbonniere seems to echo the story of modernist salons in interwar Europe, where precisely cut, light-filled glass objects became a manifesto of contemporary living. The deep amethyst hue and geometric facets evoke the spirit of Art Deco: a time when light was treated as a material and every detail reflected the designer’s deliberate intent. This vessel seems to whisper of elegant gatherings, of a fascination with brilliance and purity of form that draws the gaze without the need for ornament. The bonbonniere can be displayed on a console, sideboard, or classic vitrine, surrounded by other Art Deco objects – a geometric mirror, a chromed photo frame, or a porcelain figurine. It pairs well with crystal stemware or minimalist tableware, and with textiles featuring patterns inspired by the 1920s and 1930s. In a contemporary setting, it can serve as a vibrant accent against neutral backgrounds, highlighting the depth of color and the play of light on its faceted surfaces.
