ABOUT PRODUCTID 38037
This bonbonniere, designed by Karel Palda in the 1930s for the Haida glassworks in Czechoslovakia, exemplifies the full spirit of Art Deco. Crafted from highly transparent crystal, it features a multi-faceted, angular body with a slightly elongated octagonal form and a distinctive, faceted square knob on the lid. Symmetrically arranged matte gold geometric panels contrast with the cool sparkle of the crystal, their warm tone adding a modernist accent. Every edge is meticulously polished, and the overall proportions are compact and balanced. The interplay of glossy crystal and matte gold highlights the refined craftsmanship and bold geometry typical of the era. The bonbonniere remains in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or visible wear. The original gilding is well preserved, with no signs of restoration. The form of this piece tells the story of the 1930s—a time when Czech glassworks epitomized both luxury and modernist daring. Its geometric silhouette and gold panels echo an era where precision and ornamentation went hand in hand. The faceted handle recalls the architectural inspirations of Art Deco, and the play between matte and shine evokes a world where elegance was defined by clear lines. Though modest in scale, the bonbonniere brings the atmosphere of a historic salon—spaces designed for conversation, gatherings, and everyday delights. This piece can be paired with other decorative glass or porcelain from the period to create a curated display on a sideboard or console in the living room. It works well within interiors inspired by Art Deco, modernism
