ABOUT PRODUCTID 1557
This lidded bonbonniere, crafted in 1942 at the Józefina Glassworks in Szklarska Poręba, combines layered lead crystal in an indigo-grey hue with decorative electroplated silver overlay (1000/1000 purity). The surface is highly polished and mirror-like, featuring a harmonious form: a rounded, bulbous body transitions into a gently domed lid topped with a faceted, elongated finial. The silver ornament, precisely applied to the upper section and lid, forms a geometric pattern of fans and arches distinctly influenced by the Vienna Workshops and the Art Deco movement. The craftsmanship is meticulous, and the piece is preserved in excellent condition—without signs of wear, damage, or tarnishing to the silver. The bonbonniere stands 21 cm tall and has a diameter of 15.5 cm.
The form of this bonbonniere tells a story of a complex era: 1942, a time of uncertainty, yields a vessel of unexpected lightness and refinement. The glass, shifting from deep indigo to a smoky clarity at the base, captures and reflects light with quiet confidence, as if wishing to preserve the breath of modernism and the discipline of geometric design. The silver mounts—restrained yet expressive—echo the spirit of the Vienna Workshops and the cubist inclinations of Professor Sigfried Haertl. This object seems to whisper of elegance and hope, embedded in the daily rituals of a bygone time.
The bonbonniere would be well suited to display in a living room or study, placed on a low dark wood console or a marble surface, accompanied by geometric vases or minimalist
