ABOUT PRODUCTID 24911
This bonbonniere, produced by the Josef Pfeiffer manufactory in Ostrov nad Ohří circa 1901–1920, exemplifies early 20th-century Austro-Hungarian porcelain craftsmanship. The vessel features a bulbous, lobed form reminiscent of a stylized pumpkin or melon, crowned with a gently domed lid. Its surface is divided into alternating vertical segments of soft, pastel peach-orange and crisp white, each segment outlined in fine gilded lines. Decorative details include a striking gold finial and gilded beading around the rim of the lid. The porcelain is glazed to a glossy, highly reflective finish, and the base bears the factory’s original mark. All elements, including the gilding, are preserved in very good condition – with no chips, cracks, or discoloration – and the piece retains its complete and authentic character. This bonbonniere embodies the spirit of the early 20th century: a fascination with flowing Art Nouveau lines and a taste for sumptuous detail. Its organic form and rhythmic vertical divisions seem to narrate an era when craftsmanship drew inspiration from nature and embraced ornamental richness. The gilded accents catch the light like a sunbeam in a Viennese drawing room, while the gentle interplay of white and peach evokes the atmosphere of old-world tea rooms and refined afternoon gatherings.Such a bonbonniere could be placed as a centerpiece on a sideboard or console in the dining room, serving as a subtle decorative accent. It pairs well with period porcelain cups or atop a marble tray
