ABOUT PRODUCTID 221
The 'Tom' coffee set was designed by J. Steckiewicz and produced by Zakłady Porcelany Stołowej Wałbrzych in 1958. The ensemble includes a tall pot (height 20 cm), domed sugar bowl (10.5 cm), creamer (10 cm), six cups (height 5 cm, diameter 6 cm) and six saucers (diameter 11 cm). The dominant tone is a deep, cool black with a high-gloss finish, contrasted by crisp white interiors, handles, and saucer edges. Each vessel is adorned with hand-painted white linear motifs, reminiscent of abstract palms or fireworks, subtly decorating the pared-down, geometric forms. Handles are thin, precisely shaped, and white, contributing to the graphic clarity of the set. The porcelain surface is smooth and lustrous, with no visible chips, damage, or signs of heavy use. The set is preserved in very good condition – the painted decoration remains intact, and the glaze is even and glossy. The black-and-white palette of this service evokes the spirit of postwar Polish modernism, when form followed function yet embraced discreet artistic gestures. The hand-drawn lines echo the energy of the 1950s, a period when modernity was being woven into everyday life and coffee served from such vessels became a small ritual. Each piece seems to tell a story of a time when Polish porcelain became a manifesto of a new way of living, combining disciplined design with understated decoration. This set could be paired with a light wooden table to highlight the porcelain's contrast, or placed in an interior featuring modernist graphics and black-and-white photography. In a mid-century modern setting, it would work well alongside other collectibles from the period, while in a minimalist space it could serve as a strong, central accent. It is worth combining with geometric glassware or a simple textile napkin to bring out its graphic character.
