ABOUT PRODUCTID 16925
This crystal bowl from Murano, produced by the Mandruzatto workshop around 1950, exemplifies Italian mid-century art glass in the modernist spirit. Crafted from layered crystal glass using the sommerso ('sunshine') technique—a method pioneered by Flavio Poli—the object displays a warm golden yellow and orange core enveloped by a thick, transparent crystal layer. The hand-faceted, multi-sided form is accentuated by a mirror-polished finish, with sharp planar edges giving way to the gently rounded inner cavity. Measuring 8.5 cm in height and 14 cm in diameter, the bowl is free of fittings or additional adornment, concentrating attention on geometric purity and the natural depth of color. Condition: excellent, with no signs of use, scratches, or chips. This bowl reflects the optimism of the 1950s, when light and color became the language of modernity. The unique sommerso glass structure refracts light with every turn, revealing new shades and evoking the impression of a summer morning captured in crystalline facets. The polished surfaces mirror their surroundings with cinematic precision, suggesting that Murano’s craftsmanship needs neither words nor extra ornament—glass itself is sufficient to create a narrative of unhurried elegance. Its geometric planes bear witness to an era that valued both innovation and a touch of theatricality. This piece could serve as a stand-alone accent on a mid-century modern console or be paired with minimalist teak or marble accessories. It would combine well with bold art pieces or with a restrained palette of black and white, accentuating the play of light and the intensity of the glass color. It also functions as an elegant catchall for jewelry or keys on a designer entryway table, or as a collectible highlight in a vitrine display, where its sculpted silhouette can stand out among other examples
