ABOUT PRODUCTID 24839
The PH 4/3 pendant lamp, designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen in the 1960s, stands as an icon of Scandinavian design. Its construction features three concentric metal shades, precisely crafted and suspended from a simple black textile cord. The entire visible surface is finished in a saturated, matte cobalt blue, while the interiors of the shades are rendered in a light, creamy tone. The absence of visible fasteners highlights the purity of the form and the attention to detail. The harmonious proportions of the shades provide even, glare-free light diffusion, in line with the principles of Danish modernism. The lamp is preserved in very good condition, with no visible signs of use, damage, or restoration. This lamp’s form evokes the voice of 1960s Scandinavia—a period when functionality merged with a subtle use of color. The three-tiered shades cascade light softly downwards and to the sides, as if filtering everyday life through a matte blue haze. The cobalt finish introduces a calm coolness, while the clarity of the construction reflects the discipline of Danish modernism, where utility was paramount yet never at the expense of a bold color accent. The lamp can be hung centrally above a dining table or in a living area, where its even, non-dazzling light will gently structure social gatherings and daily rituals. It pairs well with furniture of clean lines, natural wood, or textiles in shades of grey, beige, or navy to accentuate the depth of the blue shade. The PH 4/3 harmonizes with modern, minimalist interiors as well as with organic forms and subtle color accents, creating a cohesive and sophisticated room arrangement.
