This enameled salt cellar from the 1940s was crafted in the Soviet Union and is hallmarked with the state 916 silver mark as well as Warsaw assay marks. Its compact, spherical body stands on three gold-toned, spherical feet. The richly saturated orange-red bowl provides a vivid backdrop for intricate cloisonné enamel floral motifs: white flowers with yellow centers, delicately outlined in gold, accompanied by black and white leaf accents scattered in a harmonious pattern. The rim and feet are finished in matte, subtly patinated gold. The vessel’s proportions are balanced, with a notably wider diameter than height, and the craftsmanship is visible in the smooth transitions between metal and the fine metal partitions separating the enamel sections. The overall surface combines the gloss of enamel with the matte texture of metal. The salt cellar is preserved in very good condition—there are no visible chips or cracks in the enamel, only gentle, age-appropriate signs of use on the metal elements.The salt cellar echoes the spirit of postwar Russia: folk-inspired floral decoration and geometric symmetry recall the traditions of utilitarian art, transformed into a table ornament.
