This French side table from circa 1900 exemplifies decorative craftsmanship at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, designed in the Louis XVI style. The construction features a frame and legs in wood, finished with a warm, satin gold gilding, topped by a rectangular panel of pinkish-brown marble with pronounced natural veining. The turned and fluted legs are enriched with floral and ribbon garlands, rosette and acanthus leaf carvings accentuate the corners and joints, and the lower stretcher is detailed with beading. The wood surfaces are smooth and lustrous with gilded highlights, while the marble top is polished and glossy.
