ABOUT PRODUCTID 35882
This pressed glass tea caddy or sugar bowl, produced by Huta Szkła Ząbkowice in the early 20th century, is a quintessential example of classic Polish glassmaking in the Art Nouveau spirit. The piece features an oval form made from clear, cool-toned glass, its surface adorned with a deep relief of geometric diamonds and starbursts that create a prismatic effect, refracting light and lending the object a near-jewelled quality. The robust, patinated brass mount with a spherical clasp not only reinforces the construction but also adds a decorative accent with a distinct sense of history. The caddy rests on small, integrated glass feet, and its proportions and finishing reflect the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of early Ząbkowice production. The condition is very good, with no chips or cracks to the glass and only a subtle patina on the metal, indicating careful preservation. This piece tells the story of an era when utilitarian glassware began to aspire to the status of art. Its intricate relief, playing with every ray of light, evokes the Art Nouveau fascination with nature and geometry. The brass mount conjures the ambience of early 20th-century parlours and studies, where every object had its place and meaning. This caddy could recount elegant afternoon teas, gently chiming with the sounds of porcelain and silver, while simultaneously reflecting the industrial optimism of a period unafraid to merge function with ornament. The caddy can be displayed on a console, sideboard, or within a glass-fronted cabinet, where light will accentuate the depth of the relief and the quality of the materials.
