Platone is a folding desk designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli in 1970, exemplifying the Italian modernism of the late 1960s and 1970s. The top, made of high-gloss lacquered board or wood, features a uniform, deep black, mirror-like finish. The frame, crafted from polished chrome-plated steel, creates a visual contrast and emphasizes the geometric, cantilevered construction. The legs are formed from bent steel tubing with black plastic end caps, while visible hinges and elements of the patented folding mechanism complete the design. The desk's proportions (83 × 65 × 73 cm) allow it to function as a full-sized workstation or a compact wall-mounted piece that takes up minimal space when folded. Its patented three-disc system ensures a smooth transition from its closed state to a practical work surface.
