Platone is a folding desk designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1970 for Anonima Castelli. Its patented three-disc mechanism transforms a compact, wall-mounted panel into a full-size work surface measuring 83 × 65 × 73 cm. The deep, matte navy top features a thin profile, softly rounded corners, and a discreet metallic edge that subtly catches the light. Bent, chrome-plated stainless steel legs create a compact, geometric frame, while black plastic or rubber feet and connectors stabilize the structure and protect the floor. The desk combines visual lightness with structural solidity, all articulated in the minimalist design language characteristic of 1970s modernism. The Platone concept is driven by clarity and consistency—each detail is subordinated to functional logic. The matte surface of the tabletop quiets the surroundings, the chrome legs reflect light, and the overall silhouette remains restrained, never overpowering the space.
