The Tile VJ wall light is a contemporary lighting fixture from a ceramic sconce collection developed in collaboration with Dutch designer Marianne Smink. A hand-formed ceramic tile, measuring 30 × 10 × 5.4 cm and produced in a Portuguese workshop, features a minimalist geometric pattern created with screen printing in a subdued, natural palette. Two triangular accents dominate the design: muted sage green in the top left corner and pale pastel yellow in the bottom right. The smooth, slightly glossy surface, along with subtle color variations and intentional, artisanal imperfections, emphasize the unique character of each piece. The construction combines ceramic with an aluminum support, and the lamp mounts directly to the wall. The light source remains concealed, creating a gentle, indirect illumination. The geometry and balanced proportions evoke a sense of visual calm, while the use of natural hues reflects Scandinavian influences and mid-century modern sensibilities. The delicate interplay between off-white and geometric accents allows the lamp to serve as a balanced detail—never overpowering, always enhancing its surroundings. The handmade nature of the piece reinforces its authenticity, with slight irregularities in texture and pattern ensuring each sconce is subtly unique. This wall light works well as accent lighting in a living room, hallway, or bedroom where discreet, diffused light is desired. It can be paired with white or pale matte walls, natural wood, and textiles in beige or grey to highlight its contemporary Scandinavian character. The lamp may be combined with low sideboards, simple shelving, or artwork in a muted palette to give the geometric motif a clear visual frame. Surrounded by green plants and warm, diffused lighting, the composition achieves a tranquil, harmonious effect.
