The Tiles Line J wall sconce is the result of a collaboration with Dutch designer Marianne Smink and forms part of a collection of handcrafted ceramic wall lights made in northern Portugal. Its structure consists of two precisely aligned square ceramic tiles, each divided vertically into halves: one in a warm, muted yellow, the other in creamy off-white. The graphic color contrast and glossy surface are achieved through screen printing and manual glazing, highlighting subtle irregularities and artisanal nuances unique to each piece. Supported by an invisible aluminum structure from the front, the sconce maintains clean lines and a minimalist expression. This fixture casts indirect, atmospheric light, creating an intimate ambiance without glare. Tiles Line J echoes the visual language of modernism—its bold two-tone plane, divided by a sharp line, functions like a graphic signature balancing simplicity and impact. The glossy ceramic subtly reflects light, conveying the tactile presence of small-batch craftsmanship; each sconce acquires its own character through traces of handwork. The minimalist composition focuses attention on materiality and geometry, introducing a sense of disciplined calm to the interior. The sconce works well as an accent in living rooms, hallways or bedrooms—pair it with furniture featuring simple lines, natural wood, or matte textiles to emphasize the contrast with the glazed ceramic. It can be combined with other fixtures in neutral tones or graphite accents to build a cohesive, contemporary narrative. In bright spaces, the yellow emerges subtly; in the company of deep browns or navy blues, it forms a graphic yet unobtrusive statement.
