Tiles Line C is a ceramic wall sconce crafted in Portugal’s northern Coimbra region, developed in collaboration with Dutch designer Marianne Smink. The piece consists of two vertically stacked square ceramic tiles, mounted on a discreet aluminum support. Each tile is divided into two vertical sections—one warm beige, the other soft off-white—creating a distinctive geometric rhythm. The tiles’ glossy, subtly textured surfaces display artisanal handiwork and minor variations, emphasizing the uniqueness of each element. Measuring 29 × 14 × 5.6 cm, the sconce emits indirect, diffused light that gently reflects off the smooth ceramic surface. Tiles Line C communicates through quiet form and light—the geometric clarity contrasts with the organic, handcrafted texture. The restrained, natural color palette fosters a sense of calm. The tiles evoke an abstract composition, where light becomes a subtle guide. The design’s minimalist language references modernist inspirations, while the hand-finished details lend an air of authenticity. This sconce works well as atmospheric lighting in a living room, bedroom, or hallway. It can be paired with simple, pale wood or metal furnishings and neutral-toned textiles to highlight the subtle rhythm of its form. For a cohesive, contemporary composition, consider combining it with other ceramic or glass accents—allowing the interplay of light and texture to take center stage. The lamp’s gentle glow is best accentuated by soft, natural lighting and matte surfaces.
