The Plia folding chair, designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli in 1967, is a contemporary reedition of an Italian design icon. Its structure combines a lightweight, red-painted steel frame with a transparent polycarbonate seat and backrest. The patented “three-disc pivot” folding mechanism enables smooth, precise collapse, while the entire silhouette forms a cohesive, harmonious whole. The tubular frame features rounded corners and fluid lines, with seamlessly integrated material junctions. The transparency of the polycarbonate gives the chair a visual lightness, allowing light to pass through the seat, while the red frame introduces a bold yet balanced color accent. The chair’s proportions (469 × 508 × 751 mm) ensure comfortable seating, and the compact design suits both residential and contract spaces. The Plia’s form communicates freedom and modernity, embodying the Italian approach to functionality and visual clarity. The transparent surfaces appear almost weightless, suspending the user between matter and space.
