The Plia folding chair, designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli, combines chromed steel with a transparent polycarbonate seat and backrest. The construction is based on a precisely bent, glossy frame with subtle, rounded edges and geometric proportions (469 × 508 × 751 mm). The folding mechanism is seamlessly integrated, allowing quick folding and convenient storage. Visible rivets and joints emphasize the industrial quality of the design, while black plastic feet stabilize the chair and protect the floor. The materials—chrome and clear polycarbonate—are smooth, with no discernible texture, and the entire surface is finished to a high gloss. The form of Plia communicates lightness and effortless clarity—an object that seems sketched with light and air. The transparent surfaces blur the boundary between object and setting, reflecting the spirit of the ’60s and the notion of mobility rooted in postwar modernism.
