The PLOPP stool by Oskar Zięta for Zieta Studio exemplifies experimental contemporary design, where steel becomes a medium for both engineering innovation and artistic expression. The construction is formed from two ultra-thin sheets of metal, welded at the edges and shaped under high pressure using FiDU technology. The result is a three-dimensional object with irregular, soft folds and characteristic deformations – three inflated, tubular legs converge beneath the seat, creating a compact, stable silhouette. The entire piece is finished in a deep, saturated black with a high-gloss, mirror-like surface that accentuates the organic metal texture. The seamless construction, free of visible joints or fittings, highlights the purity of the process, while the proportions – 35 × 35 × 65 cm – deliver functionality as a stool and a sculptural statement. PLOPP communicates the courage of experimentation and the subversive potential of material – steel, typically associated with weight, here gains a sense of lightness and almost balloon-like softness. The glossy surface reflects light unpredictably, and the irregular folds suggest a play between control and chance. The stool’s visual language evokes both a laboratory artifact and a ready-made sculpture – each piece is unique, marked by the trace of its making.
