The PLOPP black stool, designed by Oskar Zięta for Zieta Studio, is an icon of contemporary industrial design, crafted from two ultra-thin steel sheets welded at the edges and inflated with compressed air using FiDU technology. This process yields a three-dimensional form with a compact, monolithic silhouette, where three inflated tubular legs converge at the seat. The entire surface is finished in a deep, uniform black with a high-gloss, mirror-like sheen. The stool’s surface is smooth yet accented with unique creases and folds, highlighting the individuality of each piece. The construction is seamless, with no visible joints or fasteners, and the proportions—35 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height—make it a functional, compact piece for living spaces or public interiors. PLOPP’s form evokes associations with soft, inflated objects, despite its steel construction. The distinctive, dynamic geometry and glossy finish lend it the appearance of an object from an experimental lab or a work of functional art. Every indentation and fold records the process of “controlled loss of control,” a hallmark of Zięta’s projects—a manifesto of the new relationship between technology and sculptural expression. In interiors, the PLOPP stool works well as a solo accent next to a contemporary sofa, grouped around a low table, or surrounded by minimalist metal and glass furniture. It can be paired with monochrome rugs or light-colored walls to accentuate the depth and reflection of its black surface.
