The ASTRO wall lamp, designed by Marta Foit and awarded in the YOUNG LIGHT PROJECT in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, is built on a large, perfectly circular transparent plexiglass disc and a central matte black steel cylinder housing an integrated LED module. The deep, neutral black is contrasted with a glossy, highly transparent disc, emphasizing a minimalist aesthetic. The construction is precise and frontally seamless, with proportions—28 cm in width and depth, 8.5 cm in height—that lend the lamp a sense of lightness and a floating effect on the wall. The use of powder-coated steel and high-quality plexiglass creates a subtle interplay of matte and gloss, firmly placing the fixture within a contemporary minimalist language. ASTRO communicates through the precision of its form and restraint: the geometrical purity, transparent disc, and balanced black center create a sense of discreet presence, as if light radiates from the heart of a silent circle. The lamp is visually light—appearing to hover on the wall—while the interaction of matte and gloss reveals both the delicacy and graphic strength of the design. Its minimalist visual language highlights a modern yet timeless approach to lighting. The sconce works well as a standalone lighting accent in living rooms, corridors, or bedrooms, where its airy form underscores the calm character of the space.
